The Gardens by the Bay is Singapore’s latest effort to change the “Garden City” into a “City in a Garden”. Each park is built using the best of sustainable technology, including solar powered lighting and rainwater collection and recycling systems. The Bay South Garden is the newest addition to the park, including the massive Supertree Grove, the world’s largest columnless greenhouse, and two unique all-weather observatories.
The Flower Dome maintains a stable Mediterranean climate, with seven distinct gardens representing five continents. The smaller but higher Cloud Forest observatory allows you to explore the various levels of a tropical mountain forest. The walk extends from the foothills through a treetop jungle and up Cloud Mountain past a 35m waterfall to the Lost World full of interesting pitcher plants, gorgeous orchids, and exciting fly-trapping plants.
The Supertree Grove ranges from 25m to 50m in height, and the vista from the OCBC skyway reveals the intricate park design and the nearby marina. Make sure to stay late (Park hours are from 9am-9pm), for once the sun is down, the Supertrees put on a spectacular light and music display.

Once in the 54-hectare park feel free to explore as you like. The world’s largest columnless greenhouse, also designed to have an ecologically friendly footprint, is located in the Flower Dome. Here you’ll find the unusual Baobabs of Africa and ancient olive trees from the Mediterranean, as well as gardens from semi-arid climates in the Americas and beyond.
The Cloud Forest contains a 35-metre man-made mountain and waterfall and encloses moist and cool Tropical Montane climate. Here, you’ll find rare conifers, bright orchids, instect-eating plants, and lush green ferns and mosses.
As night falls, visit the Supertree Grove, which multitasks as a vertical plant garden ranging between 25 and 50 metres in height, and as a unique ventilation, solar, and water cooling system for the park. The panoramic view from the OCBC Skyway is well worth the extra cost! At 7:45 and 8:45pm there is a spectacular light and music show in the Grove.
Make your own way home from the park whenever you are ready.
